The Shambles

The Shambles, in York, dates back to the 14th century and was a prime location for a number of butcher’s shops and homes. In more recent years, it has become very popular amongst Harry Potter fans; The Shambles supposedly provided inspiration for Diagon Alley. Due to its connection to Diagon Alley, you will find a few wonderful Harry Potter themed stores who sell official merchandise, including ‘The Boy Wizard’, ‘World of Wizardry’ and ‘The Shop That Must Not Be Named’.

Parking

Parking is available nearby The Shambles – Piccadilly Car Park is around a 5-minute walk and the postcode is YO1 9NX. Parking is available here between 8am-8pm and you can pay for parking by cash or card. If you’re using the RingGo App, then the parking code is 27711. Parking is cheaper if you use RingGo or have a Blue Badge. But standard rates are as follows:

  • Up to 1 hour – £2.60
  • Up to 2 hours – £5.20
  • Up to 3 hours – £7.80
  • Up to 4 hours – £10.40
  • Up to 5 hours – £13
  • Over 5 hours – Add and extra £2.60 per hour
  • Evening parking (between 6pm and 8pm) – £2

Q-Park Shambles is another option, a 5-minute walk to The Shambles – postcode is YO1 7NT. The car park is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
